Our Story

WBENC and NJ WBE Certified- Experts in commercial & industrial rock & boulder drilling since 1973 specializing in caissons & pilings for bridges, piers & buildings. WBE Certified New Jersey. We do micro piles, SOE piles, grouting, mini piles, caissons, elevator drilling, plan supports, set conduits, rock sockets, core drilling, specialized drilling, shoring, surface casing for gas & oil wells, conductor holes for gas wells, industrial water wells (nonresidential), and bridge construction serving clients east of the Mississippi River & Canada.

Some mini-pile projects that we have completed are:  42nd Road in Long Island City for NYCO, Pier house in Brooklyn for Eagle Geotech, 27th Street Long Island City for Lions Group, and Broadway Project in Brooklyn for Mandarin. These jobs have totaled approx. 10 million dollars.

  • Projects for Hess, Talisman, Chief Oil, Anadarko Petroleum and East Resources on conductors for oil and gas drilling in Pennsylvania and West Virginia
  • World Trade Center disaster relief in New York City, New York
  • Manhattan underground water tunnel project in New York City, New York
  • Amtrak bridge replacement
  • New London submarine base in Groton, Connecticut
  • Anchored tidal turbines in New York City, New York
  • 63rd Street subway tunnel project in New York City, New York

We have the equipment and the capacity to overcome any unfavorable drilling condition.   Ziegenfuss Drilling, Inc. is a family owned, women owned drilling business which has operated continuously for four generations.  We own and operate all of the equipment required for any job.  We now have eight Barber drill rigs, and three Casa Grande C-8 drilling rigs.  This equipment enables us to drill 6” – 24” diameter holes in all type of formations (such as rock, sand, silt, clay, mine tailings and boulders).  This system which uses a dual rotary series, utilizes a rotary table to rotate and advance casing simultaneously.  The casing and drill bit makes one pass down the hole sealing the surface water off in rock formations.  Since we are drilling and casing simultaneously, this would eliminate the possibly of a cave-in during drilling.  This method of drilling is extremely fast and clean.  There are no additives such as revert or driller’s mud used.

At the present, there are over twelve drills and drilling crews operating along the East Coast from Massachusetts to Georgia.  Drilling operations encompass the construction of industrial dewatering wells, large diameter water wells, setting top casings for oil rigs, caissons, mini-piles, foundation holes, drilling hydraulic elevator jack holes and sheeting and shoring.
